Conference '09 -- Mission Accomplished
With our first annual medical billing and user group conference under our belts, CollaborateMD is reporting: "Mission Accomplished!" We wanted to provide an opportunity for learning, networking, earning CEUs (provided by both AAPC and MAB), and getting to know the CollaborateMD team. Plus, we wanted to showcase the incredible features in our newest software release, 8.3 (currently in beta testing). And that's exactly what we did.
Success aside, I'm struggling today with mixed feelings, and I think the entire team shares these sentiments. Our office--which was all a-buzz during the days (and weeks!) leading up to the first user conference in the history of our company--is a bit on the quiet side today. On the one hand, we can all take a deep breath and give each other pats on the back because our hard work paid off; Conference '09 accomplished the goals we set for ourselves, and was a huge success. But on the other hand, our customers are spread across the entire country, and this was the first opportunity many of us had to meet them face-to-face, which means we won't likely see many of them again for another year. We're also struggling with the feeling one often gets when coming down off of a sugar high*. All in all, we couldn't be happier with how the event turned out, except of course, for wishing we had been able to meet MORE of our customers. Thank goodness for next year**!
*Being in the healthcare industry, we can't condone the overuse of sugar. All things in moderation. Except coffee. We drank a lot of coffee.
**I hope you're planning to attend Conference 2010! I'm going to have to wrap up this blog post so we can start planning...
Conference '09 Recap
In case you missed it, Conference '09, presented by CollaborateMD and Medical Association of Billers (MAB), was held May 18th &19th at The Rosen Centre Hotel right here in Orlando, Florida. I won't go into each of the presentations in this post; if you missed them, you can read all about our speakers and the incredible content they shared with us by checking out our Day 1 and Day 2 blog entries. What I will share with you, however, are some of the pictures we captured over the course of the two-day event.

Thank you to our platinum sponsor, Relay Health!

And thank you to ALL of the Conference '09 sponsors:

As promised, Day 1 was an overwhelming success here at Conference '09, but the excitement doesn't stop there. Over two days of sessions, our attendees will receive 5.5 AAPC CEUs and 13 MAB CEUs!
We'll begin our final day by thanking our platinum sponsor, RelayHealth, and giving a few members of their team the opportunity to speak to conference-goers about their incredible organization. They'll also discuss our ePrescribing and patient solution tools encompassed in P2P+, powered by RelayHealth.
Our next speaker, Evelyn Rodriguez, will introduce some new Enhanced Reporting Functionality. Evelyn, our vice president of customer support, manages a well-trained team of analysts, representatives, and implementation specialists to support thousands of system users and handle tens of thousands of cases each year. Today, she'll go way beyond providing support to show our customers what amazing enhancements have been made to CollaborateMD reports. She'll go over what reports to run and when to run them in order to effectively manage our office, reduce A/R days, and increase revenue and net profit improvement.
Next is Valerie Haugen, Director of the Division of Provider Information Planning & Development with the Center for Medicare Management, who will teach our audience about the Medicare Learning Network. Specifically, Valerie's presentation will describe the various resources that are available to Medicare fee-for-service providers to help them with their Medicare business practices.
After lunch, we'll kick the afternoon off with a session presented by long-time CollaborateMD customer, Michael Edmonds, CHBME. Mike will discuss Healthcare Compliance, which he's more than qualified to speak about considering his twenty-six years of experience in healthcare management and his expertise in medical reimbursement, coding, insurance/patient billing, statistical analysis, revenue cycle management, insurance contracting, physician credentialing, management information system reporting and healthcare compliance management.
Shelia Gunn, CCS-P, CPC, CMBS-I, will take the stage next to speak about Medical Necessity Audits & Appeals. Shelia is the local president of the CMBS Midlothian, Virginia chapter, and the membership chairman for the Virginia Health Information Management Association. During her presentation, our audience will learn tips on the auditing process, why audits are necessary for compliance, what payers expect from providers to get claims paid, and how establishing medical necessity decreases denials and increases revenue.
The final presentation of the day is from our very own Patrick Mann, who will take all of us on a journey to check out our Product Roadmap. After months and months of development, we'll see a recap of the new features we've introduced over the past two days, and we'll even get a glimpse into what's to come with CollaborateMD's suite of solutions in the future.
Bringing our second day to a close, we'll invite several special guests to the stage to serve on our industry panel and answer questions from the audience on a myriad of industry topics. After some prize giveaways from our sponsors, this amazing conference will officially draw to a close. I guess that means it's time to start preparing for...
UC2010!
Before we take that next step, though, let's take a moment to thank all of our incredible sponsors who've made UC09 such a success!
RelayHealth -- Platinum Sponsor
dashboardMD -- Exhibitor
MediMobile -- Exhibitor
Source Technologies -- Exhibitor
GreenFlag Profit Recovery -- Exhibitor
HealthCare Anytime -- Cocktail Reception Sponsor
If you're attending CollaborateMD's first annual user conference today and tomorrow, you are in for some incredible presentations.
For starters, our very own Rona Francis, Support Analyist, will kick off the day with the Appointment Scheduler, Eligibility & Phone Notification presentation. Rona will not only give an overview of some of the new features we're introducing in 8.3, but she'll show our Conference '09 attendees how to use these tools to streamline front-office workflow to reduce A/R days and no-shows.
Next up is Steven Verno, CMBS CEMCS CMSCS. Steve has over 25 years experience in medical billing, claims processing and appeals. He is a well sought after speaker because of his vast knowledge and quick wit. In 1998 he began traveling internationally and teaching billing and compliance for the Medical Association of Billers. He is currently part of the MAB Editorial Advisory Board and regularly contributes articles to the CodeTrends newsletter and BC Advantage. Mr. Verno is well known for his tireless efforts in answering questions on the MAB forum. Today, in his session on Billing Concepts, Steve will cover how to respond to insurance requests, patient concerns, and regulatory agencies; collect self-pay, co-pays and coinsurance; and effectively work aged claims.
To talk about Real-time Services, our conference will welcome Patrick Mann, VP of Software Operations to the stage. Patrick was brought on-board in 2002 to assist CollaborateMD president & CEO, Douglas Kegler, in the initial development of our application. He and his entire development team have been very hard at work to build new features, which Patrick will introduce throughout the two-day event. To close the presentation, Fred Richards from RelayHealth will join Patrick to further discuss some of the real-time services CollaborateMD offers medical practices and billing services.
For our Claims Management presentation, Conference '09 emcee, Eric Rosselot will introduce...himself?! That's right, our new vice president of sales will make a presentation of his own to help conference attendees become even more skilled at efficiently entering & tracking claims to optimize workflow for increased revenue and net profit improvement.
Next, Angelique Belot, CPC will present Payment Posting & Denial Management. Angelique's journey here at CollaborateMD has proven she can not only handle any aspect of implementation and customer support, but that she understands our software well enough to move into our first internal training position. UC09 attendees will get to experience, first-hand, Angelique's vast understanding of how to use ERA in auto-posting to reduce errors and increase back-office efficiency.
For our last presentation of the first day, we'll bring Robert Liles, Esquire to the front of the room to discuss Medicare Appeals. Robert is a healthcare fraud defense attorney based in Washington, DC. His firm, Liles Parker, represents healthcare providers in both civil and criminal proceedings around the country. During this session, Robert will discuss the Medicare and private payer appeals processes, and UC09 attendees will learn why it is important to appeal denied claims (other than the obvious benefit of getting paid) and how to maneuver through the appeals process.
After a long day of incredible sessions, what better way to celebrate than to all gather together for the UC09 cocktail networking reception, sponsored by HealthCare Anytime!
That's it for Day 1. As you can see (or read), it's going to be quite a day. See you tomorrow for Day 2!
